The MtGox drama continues unabated. Yesterday, the CEO of the company Mark Karpeles resigned from the Bitcoin Foundation. In a short statement on the matter, the Foundation thanked Mark for ‘’early and valuable contributions as a founding member in launching the Bitcoin Foundation.’’ The news tanked bitcoin prices at the embattled exchange. After trading above $300 for most of the day, BTC/USD fell to a low of $131.7 in today’s trading session. One bitcoin is currently quoted at $184 on MtGox. Shortly after the resignation, the company proceeded to delete all tweets from their twitter feed. This contributed to the negative market reaction and exacerbated the fall. It’s worth noting however that the company’s twitter has been largely defunct since early January. Even before that, MtGox used an automated canned reply in response to customers questions. Despite the large 50 percent drop at the troubled firm, bitcoin prices at the other exchanges fell by a much smaller margin. On BitStamp, BTC/USD is trading at $559, 50 points below the $609 daily open. Bitcoin prices were more resilient on BTC-E. After opening the day at $605, one BTC is currently worth $567 at the Bulgaria based exchange.
